About the event

The Sickle Cell Association of Savannah, Inc in collaboration with Savannah State University Department of Student Outreach and Development will host The Association's 53rd Annual Luncheon and SSU Sickle Cell Awareness Day. The theme for the event, "Sickle Cell on Campus: Awareness, Accommodation, and Achievement", will feature Dr. Otis S. Powell, Jr who is the Medical Director of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, Inc. Dr. Powell will deliver a presentation on sickle cell anemia and highlight the importance of special accommodations and support required for students and student athletes on campus to ensure a successful academic tenure. The invitation is extended to faculty/staff, coaches, students, student athletes, sickle cell warriors, and community at large.
